Owned by the Taresch family and located high in the hills of Victoria's Strathbogie Ranges, approximately 125km north east of Melbourne, Elgo Estate is committed to crafting wines that reflect and express the climate and characteristics unique to this cool-climate region in a sustainable manner. Elgo Estate has created an industry blueprint through their environmental initiatives being the first winery in Australia (and possibly the world) to generate and be fully powered by renewable wind energy through their installation of a 150kW wind turbine on site. Further Elgo Estate has adopted a holistic approach to sustainability over the past 10 years with a significant investment in water management, land regeneration and waste recycling. Even the sheep have a role to play eating weeds in the vineyard between harvest and budburst, resulting in less herbicide use and reduced tractor work and its associated fossil fuel usage. The Taresch family are truly committed to producing high quality wines and preserving this beautiful part of the world for future generations.
