CEC member forum with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) of India

The Clean Energy Council/REEEP forum supported by Toyota was held on Wednesday 4 November, featuring representatives from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) of India.

TERI is a scientific and policy research institute that works on a broad range of issues related to sustainable development, headed by Dr R K Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It is an influential voice on climate change and development policy in India and is a sought after partner for international collaboration.

The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh recently announced that India has approved in principle a solar mission - one of eight missions under the National Action Plan for Climate Change. The Solar Mission sets a target of 20,000 MW of installed solar capacity by 2020, rising to 200,000 MW by 2040. TERI was one of the key organisations that advocated for such an ambitious target.

The workshop provided a forum for Australian clean energy technology stakeholders to discuss with the TERI team India’s plans and capacity to achieve these targets.
