Federal Government climate change announcements

Dear Members,

There have been a range of announcements made by the Gillard Government over the past week as they unveiled their climate change commitments heading to the polls.

The CEC has been sending the message to political parties that a robust policy framework to reduce greenhouse emissions must include a carbon price and a constraint on emissions. It must also be supported by the following measures:

• Accelerated deployment of proven clean energy generation
• Accelerated development of new and emerging clean technologies
• Encouragement of more efficient use of energy.
