Cogeneration & Trigeneration Working Group

The CEC runs an Cogeneration & Trigeneration Working Group. The working group is responsible for the guidance and input into CEC policy positions.

Members of the Cogeneration & Trigeneration Working Group include companies involved in cogeneration and trigeneration from sources such as natural gas, landfill gas, and bagasse, local and state government representatives and consultants specialising in the cogeneration and trigeneration sector.

The working group meets via teleconference every three months. At the first meeting in July 2011, the group agreed to the following workplan:

  1. Identify policy priorities for the cogeneration and trigeneration sector
  2. Produce a summary of barriers impacting the cogeneration and trigeneration sector
  3. Produce a summary of benefits provided by the cogeneration and trigeneration sector
  4. Identify and agree on policy recommendations to overcome the barriers identified.

Based on this input, the CEC is drafting its policy position paper cogeneration & trigeneration. The paper will look at the benefits of such technology, explore the range of barriers that are currently limiting the growth of cogeneration and trigeneration in Australia and identify the unique policy support required to overcome such barriers.

The Clean Energy Council will progress work in cogeneration and trigeneration based on solutions to the barriers identified in the policy position paper. Such work will be actively driven and guided by Cogeneration & Trigeneration Working Group.
