The release of the White Paper on the Coalition’s Emissions Reduction Fund has brought the policy closer to reality, the Clean Energy Council’s Chief Executive David Green said today.
Mr Green, who is also Co-Chair of the expert reference group providing advice to the government on the policy, said several changes announced today were a significant step forward.
“The news that the fund will effectively be increased from five to seven years, and the allocation of $1 billion in additional funding, provides greater incentive for companies and communities to develop projects under the program,” Mr Green said.
“Indeed, the White Paper lays some solid groundwork for the introduction of the Emissions Reduction Fund.”
Mr Green said that, as Co-Chair of the expert reference group, it had been excellent to see the high levels of engagement from industry, as well as the willingness of the Federal Government to listen to feedback and concerns.
“Similarly, the industry also looks forward to working further with the Federal Government on the current review of Australia’s Renewable Energy Target, a policy which continues to hunt out low cost, competitive renewable energy projects,” he said.
