A series of Clean Energy Council forums across the country in 2017 will explore the huge potential and various challenges of energy storage, and continue preparations for the once-in-a-generation transformation of the Australian energy sector that storage will deliver.

Clean Energy Council Director of Smart Energy Darren Gladman said energy storage such as home battery systems had the potential to revolutionise the way energy was produced, stored and used.

“There’s a reason energy storage has such a huge buzz around it, but there is a range of complex issues that need to be understood and addressed as it becomes mainstream. The technology and cost reductions are moving faster than the regulatory environment, and it is crucial Australia gets the rules of the game sorted out as quickly as possible,” Mr Gladman said.

“Our 2017 Australian Energy Storage Leadership Series will bring together leading policymakers, regulators, analysts and industry leaders to discuss some of the hottest topics confronting the industry and ensure the mass adoption of storage technology is a smooth process.

“Subjects discussed at the forums will range from the current market opportunities to getting the regulations right, protecting consumers and how storage can support both the power grid and the increased use of renewable energy such as solar and wind power.

“There is extraordinary opportunity in this growing sector, and I am really looking forward to the conversations we will be having with all the leaders of the sector across the country,” he said.

The Clean Energy Council 2017 Australian Energy Storage Leadership Series starts in Melbourne on Thursday 23 February and will also visit Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
