Bioenergy Directorate
Members of the Bioenergy Directorate include bioenergy companies involved in landfill gas, bagasse, agricultural related waste and wood-related waste industries.
Bioenergy industry reports
The CEC produces annual industry reports for members into various industry sectors. Last year the CEC completed a report into the bioenergy sector. An industry report for 2011 is due for release at the end of the year.
Bioenergy Roadmap
The Clean Energy Council produced an Australian Bioenergy Roadmap (2008) to identify Australia's bioenergy potential and establish generation targets for 2020 and 2050 of 11,000 GWh and 73,000 GWh respectively (bioenergy contributes approximately 11.5 percent of Australia’s renewable energy generation). The roadmap is available here.
Bioenergy Barriers Report
These targets identified in the Australian Bioenergy Roadmap (2008) will not be realised without the removal of a range of barriers that are currently limiting the growth of bioenergy in Australia. These barriers include fuel resource availability, costs and locational issues.
The Clean Energy Council commissioned SKM MMA to identify the barriers in more detail and develop potential solutions. The report 'Removing Barriers Facing Bioenergy in Australia 2011' can be found at removingbioenergybarriers.com.au
The Clean Energy Council is progressing work in bioenergy in 2011 based on solutions to the barriers identified in the Report. This involves an ongoing communications strategy aimed at raising the profile of bioenergy, as well as ongoing advocacy to increase both public and private sector support for bioenergy projects.
