Small wind
Small wind systems are commonly regarded as those systems sized up to 100kW maximum capacity, but most commonly in the range of 1-10kW.
The market for small wind systems in Australia has traditionally been dominated by battery charged systems in off-grid locations. However, in recent times there has been an increased in grid-connected small wind systems for urban and semi-urban areas. This increase is also reflected internationally - in 2008, approximately 38.7MW of new small wind capacity was installed globally.
The growing demand for small wind power indicates that small wind technology will play an increasingly important role in helping to deliver the levels of renewable energy generation required to meet the 20% by 2020 Renewable Energy Target (RET).
