Lucas Heights II Landfill Gas Plant

Non-Cogeneration, Distributed Generation
Location: Lucas Heights, NSW

Energy Purchase and Supply

Methane is supplied to the electricity generation plant from the adjacent landfill site at Lucas Heights. Landfill gas in excess of the plant's requirements is shipped five kilometres through to a 250 mm pipeline to supply the Lucas Heights I landfill gas project (5.2 MW).

The plant is grid connected with the power sold to EnergyAustralia, the local electricity retailer. Part of the power sales are sold as 'green power' under a scheme accredited by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of New South Wales.

The plant operates base-load and is registered as a non-market, non-scheduled generator.

Environmental Impact

The power produced from the plant is designated 'renewable'.

The project results in C0 2 emissions savings of approximately 650,000 tonnes per annum, this figure includes the capture of fugitive emissions.
