Solar PV powered by weather*

Australia is the sunniest country in the world. There were 187,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed across Australia at the beginning of October 2010, around 170,000 of which were installed during the last two years. Solar has become extremely popular with homeowners, who see it as an opportunity to take action on climate change and protect themselves from rising electricity costs.

* This data is supplied by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
* 'Peak sun hours' is the equivalent number of hours per day when solar insolation averages 1000 watts per square meter.

Solar PV calculator

The below calculator helps you to measure the amount of electricity generated by your solar PV system last week in kilowatt hours as well as the percentage of your household electricty. Simply enter the nearest city to you and the size of your system.

Please note these figures are based on the array tilted at optimum angle and is facing north this is a guide any figures greater than 30 % discrepancy please refer to your installer. Figures are based on the assumption that the average Australian household uses 136.5 kWh per week.
