The CEC is committed to improving gender diversity in the renewable energy industry at all levels. To support this goal, the CEC has established an annual scholarship to support a female leader in the renewable energy industry to undertake the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Foundations of Directorship course.

Through the Foundations of Directorship scholarship, the Women in Renewables program aims to empower more women to aspire to leadership roles and help increase the pool of potential candidates for board roles within the clean energy sector.

It is for the senior female visionaries in CEC member companies, Approved Solar Retailers and Accredited Installers wanting to take the next step in their careers. For full course details visit the AICD website.

Course details - Foundations of Directorship

The Foundations of Directorship course is designed for new and aspiring directors, senior executives, and managers wanting to gain a foundational knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of boards and directors.

As part of the scholarship to complete the three-day course, the successful applicant will receive a one-year membership to the Australian Institute of Company Directors which will provide the winner with numerous benefits including networking and further learning and development opportunities.

The successful candidate will also be offered mentoring by a CEC Board Director and invited to present to the CEC board on the learnings from the course.

The Foundations of Directorship scholarship would be suitable for someone who:

  • Currently reports to a board or is looking to take the next step to a role on a board
  • Has recently been appointed to a board and would like to learn the basics/foundations
  • Wants to gain a better understanding of board processes
  • Wants to understand how to run an organisation properly, with best practice in mind
  • Wants to develop a director mindset
  • Wants to help shape the direction of the clean energy industry
  • Has a demonstrated desire to support the development of other women in the industry
  • Has signed the Clean Energy Council Leaders’ Pledge

Eligibility and selection criteria

The successful applicant will meet the following selection criteria:

  1. Be a current employee of a CEC member company or be a CEC Accredited Installer.
  2. Possess a minimum of five years’ experience in the clean energy industry (please explicitly address the number of years in each relevant role).
  3. Possess a minimum of three years’ demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role (please explicitly address the amount of time in each relevant role).
  4. Have a demonstrated commitment to leading the clean energy sector.
  5. Demonstrated basic financial literacy and strategic planning (for example, reading financial reports, managing a budget, financial reporting).

  • a letter from a referee of no more than two pages that: attests their confidence in your ability to successfully complete the requirements of the program; explains how this program will support your career progression; and shares anything else they may deem relevant to your application.

Applications must be submitted through our scholarship application form, before 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 28 February 2020. The successful applicant will be announced on Wednesday 29 April 2020.
