Clean Energy at Work 2020 highlights the results of the largest study of current and projected employment in the renewable energy industry in Australia.

In mid-2019, the Clean Energy Council commissioned the first comprehensive survey of employment across the renewable energy industry. The survey covered small-scale rooftop solar, large-scale solar and wind, hydro and pumped hydro, battery storage and the associated supply chains.

Clean Energy at Work highlights this survey and covers current and projected renewable energy jobs across Australia, showing that in 2019 the renewable energy industry employed over 25,000 workers and that figure could rise to 44,000 by 2025. The report also highlights the opportunities renewable energy presents for rural and regional Australia, with around 70 per cent of employment dispersed outside capital cities across Australia, as well as identifying the skills shortages that are causing significant bottlenecks across the renewable energy industry.

Clean Energy at Work is based on research undertaken by the Institute for Sustainable Futures and accompanying report Renewable Energy Jobs in Australia, available to download separately here.
