The Clean Energy Council and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) have teamed up to offer the Grid Connection Graduate Program, for engineering graduates looking to become grid connection engineers.
Being a grid connection engineer is an exciting, innovative career pathway, and one that is driving the energy transition.
Grid connection engineers are needed for all renewable energy technologies at scale. They usually hold degrees in electrical engineering and are required to be proficient in the use of dynamic medium- to long-term simulation models for complex systems, and ideally have experience across a range of work settings in which grid connections play an essential role. They have excellent knowledge of the National Electricity Market and compliance requirements of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) or other network service providers. They are employed by developers, balance-of-plant providers, consultants and AEMO.
The demand for grid connection engineers within the clean energy sector exceeds supply, with job advertisements outnumbering applicants. And this demand will continue to grow as we race toward our renewable energy targets.
To address this shortage, the Clean Energy Council and AEMO have come together to create a unique industry-wide graduate program, offering participants experiences and learning opportunities not available in other programs. By bringing together multiple employing organisations as hosts, graduates in this program will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and new skills as they rotate through multiple work settings, whilst also receiving additional job-ready training and networking opportunities.
The Grid Connection Graduate Program will begin in January 2025; recruiting will commence early- to mid-2024. If you are a student or graduate interested in this program, click below to join our mailing list for key recruitment dates and program information.
The Expression of Interest process is now open and will run until February 2024. The program will attract graduates of the highest calibre, selected through a stringent recruitment process. As a host employer, you will be investing in the future of the industry. Places are limited for the 2025/26 pilot program.
We hosted a member briefing on 22 November 2023; Clean Energy Council members can log in to watch the recording and to download a full Information Pack.
Please provide your details if you are interested in participating as a host organisation in the 2025/26 pilot program and we will get in touch:
