Key Responsibilities


  • Develop the strategy for achieving a successful grid connection of each project within the region, prepare project plans and manage to achieve required outcomes.
  • Lead the negotiation of generator performance standards with the relevant NSP and AEMO.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including AEMO, TNSPs / DNSPs, consultants and AE counterparts.

Service Provision

Manage the regional Grid Connections team to provide the following services:

  • Evaluation of the commercial and technical viability of potential and existing renewable generation sites with respect to connection to grid.
  • Maintain the wind/solar farm standard electrical works technical specification and prepare project specific designs and specifications for inclusion into the EPC sub-contract(s).
  • Lead and coordinate Generator Performance Standards negotiation alliance team (AE, Nordex and consultants) for projects and ensure there is a clear path to receive 5.3.4A/B letters without delays to the agreed schedule.
  • Resolution of grid and electrical and communications technical issues during the construction and operational phases
  • Lead and coordinate technical input into service agreements with OEMs
  • Provide technical and strategic input into connection agreement negotiations with NSPs
  • Lead submissions into rule change proposals related to grid connection activities on behalf of Acciona
  • Lead R2 testing regimes and collaborate with commissioning teams within various organisations to ensure a timely performance of R2 testing

    Team Management
  • Assigning projects and tasks to Direct Reports and the setting of priorities.
  • Roll out key business decisions and processes to the team to explain the purpose, scope and application.
  • Fulfill Manager’s roles within the Performance Management System.
  • Contribute to the Salary Review process for Direct Reports.
    General Management
  • Involvement in general management of the business to contribute to the achievement of business targets. Activities include:
  • Provide input into the ACCIONA Energy budget process.
  • Plan for anticipated human resource requirements in the medium term.
  • Recruitment of new staff.
  • Contribute to the management of the business through regular Management Team Meetings (and their resultant actions) and through leadership generally.
    Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ):
  • Promote a positive safety and environmental culture
  • Be aware of all the HSEQ responsibilities as detailed in business strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure implementation of compliance with all relevant HSEQ policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements
  • Actively contribute to safety initiatives, safety in design and have a commitment to achieving zero harm.
    Key Result Areas
  • Timely, cost effective connection of ACCIONA Energia’s renewable generation projects to the grid.
  • Delivery of high quality, cost effective renewable generation site electrical and communications infrastructure and services.
  • Timely, accurate provision of advice and solutions to the business pertaining to grid connection and electrical and communications systems.
  • A stable, effective and engaged regional Gird Connections team.

  • 10 years experience in either the power generation, transmission or distribution industries.
  • Experience in connecting renewable energy generators in the National Electricity Market, with knowledge of the National Electricity Rules and provisions under Chapter 5.
  • Experience undertaking grid connection studies from pre-FIA to R2.
  • Negotiation of connection agreements and EPC, S&I, BOP and O&M contracts
  • Demonstrated management and project management experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, direct reports etc to achieve optimal outputs.
  • Electrical Engineering (or similar) Degree and ideally post graduate management qualifications.
