First Solar has developed, financed, engineered, constructed and currently operates and maintains many of the world’s and Australia’s largest grid-connected PV power plants. Due to continued strong growth in the Australian market, we are seeking experienced, flexible and highly motivated individuals to fill a role in Broken Hill, NSW.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operation, inspection and preventative maintenance of power station and ancillary plant;
  • Primary responder to outage calls or automated service calls generated by remote alarm notification systems;
  • Investigation, troubleshooting and rectification of faults and plant failures;
  • Participate in planned plant shutdowns;
  • Supervision of contractors and visitors.

To be successful in this role you will be a qualified electrical tradesperson with at least 2-5years of post trade experience and possess knowledge and experience of electrical power system operation or maintenance.

In addition you will:

  • Possess a valid Australian driver's license;
  • Hold an Australian Electrical License - (preferably licensed in NSW);
  • Be able to work autonomously and within a small team;
  • Demonstrate a proactive and safety-focused work ethic;
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Be able to apply relevant computer based systems and software to business unit activities;
  • Be flexible to provide out of hours/weekend support if required.
  • Possess strong fault finding skills

Desirable but not essential:

  • High Voltage Switching Ticket;
  • Experience with both AC and DC systems, including inverters, switchgear, transformers, batteries, power meters, computer monitoring systems, associated sensors, PV modules, and PV arrays;
  • Strong fault finding of communication systems and of IT related hardware
  • Proficient using Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlooks etc.
  • Experience using a CMMS system for maintenance tracking
  • An understanding of project management and its application to minor projects and plant outage management;
  • Solar/PV knowledge and CEC accreditation.
