Clean energy industry to throw open the gates for visitors at the end of October

Clean Energy Council Chief Executive Kane Thornton said Wind Farm Open Day had been run by his organisation three times, and the time had come to expand the event to include other kinds of clean energy as well.

“We have seen dozens of new wind and solar farms built over the last few years, creating lots of jobs and opportunities in regional towns around the country. The clean energy construction boom has created some $27 billion in investment and more than 16,650 jobs,” Mr Thornton said.

“Many people are understandably curious about how our electricity system is changing and what that looks like at the many wind and solar projects now operating in regional Australia.

“Both wind and solar farms run using fascinating and sophisticated technology, and Clean Energy Open Day is a great opportunity to learn more about clean energy from the knowledgeable staff at wind and solar farms, meeting other people in the local community or just having a fun day out with the family.”

Infigen Energy’s annual Run With the Wind fun run at the Woodlawn Wind Farm in New South Wales will be held to coincide with Clean Energy Open Day on 27 October.

The Clean Energy Council will coordinate the event in partnership with the Australian Wind Alliance, with events at each renewable energy power plant run by individual companies for those in the local community.

Wind and solar farms in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania will run events and tours for visitors.
