Hydrogen clusters will be critical in Australia's development as a clean energy superpower

The Clean Energy Council welcomes today's announcement by National Energy Resources Australia (NERA) of 13 new regional hydrogen clusters, which will help to cultivate the local supply chain ecosystems that Australia will need to become a world leader in hydrogen production.

According to Deloitte, the economic potential of Australia's hydrogen sector is large – up to $26 billion annually in additional GDP and 16,900 new jobs by 2050.

"In these very early days of this new industry, co-ordination is key, and these clusters will bring players from industry and research together to take advantage of our emerging hydrogen opportunities," said Anna Freeman, the Clean Energy Council's Policy Director – Energy Generation.

"Those interested in playing a role in the hydrogen supply chain will be able to join the regional clusters to identify the local needs and opportunities.

"We congratulate NERA on recognising this key need for regional co-operation, and look forward to supporting the success of the clusters."
