Jobs of the future

As we have seen through the industry’s rapid growth in recent years, jobs in renewables are often underestimated and there is an opportunity for many more workers to join our industry as we continue to grow.

The clean energy industry is growing at a swift pace and finding skilled workers is constantly cited by our industry as a key barrier for growth. As we have seen through the industry’s rapid growth in recent years, jobs in renewables are often underestimated and there is an opportunity for many more workers to join our industry as we continue to grow.

I am so pleased to announce that the Clean Energy Council is partnering with Capstone Recruitment to present the inaugural Renewable Energy Careers Expo which gives our industry a chance to get up close and personal with some of the best and brightest university students from across Melbourne. It is also an excellent opportunity for our industry to showcase the breadth and depth of careers on offer in the renewable energy industry and showcase the untapped opportunities on offer.

Renewables are making a fantastic contribution to regional communities but there is much more that we can do. On 1 October I appeared at the Senate Inquiry into Jobs for the Future in Regional Areas and wrote a submission into the inquiry. In that submission, we highlighted some of the revitalising benefits the renewables industry is having on regional economies, through direct job creation and in attracting new industry to regional areas.

The Clean Energy Council has also commissioned the Institute of Sustainable futures at the University of Technology Sydney to conduct a national jobs survey. This is the first nationwide survey ever conducted to accurately measure employment across the clean energy sector. The results are due to come out in the coming months and will provide not only our industry, but policy-makers and training bodies a much clearer picture of where we need to focus our efforts and outline the massive job opportunities for the industry into the future.

The Renewable Energy Careers Expo is being in Melbourne on 22 October from 6.00 – 8.00pm. For more information visit our Renewable Energy Careers Expo page.
