AGL Energy and Vena Energy Australia have today announced plans to build Queensland’s biggest battery, which will play a crucial role in improving grid stability and support the continued shift to renewable energy in the state.
The 100-megawatt battery will store and distribute energy and will enable high levels of wind and solar power to be integrated into the energy grid – creating more than 30 new jobs and building on Queensland’s success as a world leader in solar energy.
Clean Energy Council Chief Executive Kane Thornton said increasing energy storage capacity in the grid is the next phase in the modernisation of Australia’s energy network.
“Queensland continues to be a major hub for clean energy projects within Australia with more than $6 billion invested in renewable projects since 2017,” Mr Thornton said. “It has created more than 5,900 jobs in clean energy production across the state,”
“A similar battery project in South Australia from 2017 has been extremely successful in strengthening the grid, and this latest announcement is fantastic news for Australia’s clean energy industry.”
Construction on the battery will begin in July and is expected to be completed within a year.
