Victoria's Solar Homes program shows improving customer satisfaction in solar systems and retailers

Recently, at the All-Energy conference in Melbourne Solar Victoria shared some pleasing statistics from their Solar Homes program which showed increasing customer satisfaction with solar system purchases.

Australia is a world leader in rooftop solar and Victoria runs one of the largest state subsidy schemes in its $1.3bn Solar Homes program. Given solar systems are a high-value purchase and deliver an essential service, it's important that consumers are protected from misleading offers, sub-standard service or unfit products.

In 2019, the Victorian Solar Homes program made it a requirement that retailers wanting to participate in the program must also be part of the Approved Solar Retailer (ASR) program administered by the Clean Energy Council. The ASR program complements regulations enforced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), energy safety bodies and consumer affairs, by encouraging solar retailers to commit to consumer protection standards that exceed those existing protections or clarify their application to small-scale renewables.

At the All-Energy conference in Melbourne Solar Victoria shared results from a survey of Solar Home participants.

The survey showed that 84% of customers were satisfied with their solar system and 82% satisfied with their solar retailer, a great result demonstrating that the program, retailers and the regulatory environment are helping deliver for consumers.

We look forward to continuing to work with Solar Victoria, the Clean Energy Regulator and retailers to continue to improve customer satisfaction in rooftop solar and new energy tech.
