Wiring rules amendment and battery install standard update

The Wiring Rules, AS/NZS 3000:2018 amendment 1, have been published by Standards Australia. The amendment calls up the battery install standard AS/NZS 5139:2019, which means that it will soon be mandatory across all states and territories that have not already mandated it.

Check the table below for dates.

WAAS/NZS 5139:2019 will become mandatory on 15 August 2020
NZThe citation of AS/NZS 5139:2019 requires regulatory amendment. There is currently no program of amendment under action.
However, the WorkSafe NZ considers this standard to be in the scope of all reasonably practicable steps.

Installers and designers should check with their state electrical regulator and network service providers for more information.

This means that installers installing batteries must begin to familiarise themselves with the new battery install standard, AS/NZS 5139:2019. You can purchase standards from these websites.

Accredited installers and CEC members can log in to the website and check out a range of videos and other documents to help them read the standard.
