WSP Executive selected for inaugural Women in Renewables Leadership Scholarship

The Clean Energy Council and Monash Business School are proud to announce the awarding of the inaugural Women in Renewables Your Leadership Voice scholarship to Heidi Sick, Section Executive at the global engineering consulting firm WSP.

Heidi Sick Ylv 2018

The Your Leadership Voice scholarship is a new initiative funded by Monash Business School for three years to recognise and cultivate the leadership potential of extraordinary women in the clean energy industry. Heidi will undertake the Your Leadership Voice: Women in Focus course, culminating in the Monash University Speak Up Equally talks event.

Clean Energy Council Chief Executive, Kane Thornton said Ms Sick was an example of the many outstanding women in the renewable industry deserving of wider public recognition.

“Heidi started her career as a chemical engineer over 20 years ago. She is now an executive overseeing a high-performing team of 30, as well as being a member of the advisory panel to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency,” Mr Thornton said.

“Heidi is the perfect candidate to kick off the inaugural year for the Your Leadership Voice scholarship, which will build on her already-strong career and equip her with the skills and confidence to take a greater leadership role in the renewables industry.”

Michelle Russell, Director of Executive Education at Monash Business School, said Heidi already had a strong track record in the renewables industry, which the scholarship would help to develop even further.

“Heidi has doubled her dynamic team at WSP over the past two years, espousing care, accountability and diversity – many of the values that are perfectly aligned with our outlook at Monash Business School. Despite engineering being a male-dominated field, she has grown the gender diversity in her engineering team from a low base to 38 per cent women. We are very proud to name her as the first winner of the Your Leadership Voice scholarship,” Ms Russell said.

Ms Sick said she was grateful to the Clean Energy Council and Monash Business School for an opportunity to further build on her leadership skills and increase her confidence.

“Women often don’t put themselves forward for roles until they are fully confident, or have met all the relevant criteria. This needs to change. The course content of Your Leadership Voice: Women in Focus aligns extremely well with my current development goals, providing a strong foundation to further develop me as a leader and role model in the clean energy industry,” Ms Sick said.

The Clean Energy Council received an overwhelming number of high-quality candidates for this scholarship, with triple the number of expected applicants applying to be considered.

The selection panel for the scholarship was made up of:

  • Maryanne Coffey, Policy and Project Manager, Clean Energy Council
  • Michelle Russell, Director of Executive Education, Monash Business School
  • Megan Wheatley, Manager, Communications and External Affairs, Senvion Australia.

The Clean Energy Council would like to recognise all the outstanding candidates who applied for the 2019 scholarship. The selection panel encourages all candidates to consider applying again in future years.
