We welcome the work VicGrid is planning to do to support the development of transmission capacity that will enable the growth of Victoria's offshore wind industry. However, we consider that this planning needs to have a firm eye on the scale of offshore wind capacity, which is much greater than the initially proposed 2-2.5 GW of transmission capacity. The timeliness of this capacity is also critical to the development of the industry.

The CEC welcomes the draft declaration of the Hunter offshore wind area, noting the high-quality wind resource and the strength of existing transmission capacity onshore and an industrial workforce in the region. The draft area is, however, much smaller than the Gippsland area and we would hope to see this expanded within a few years once initial projects have Feasibility Licences.
