Victoria confirms continuation of solar and battery rebates

The Victorian Government has confirmed funding for the continuation of solar and battery rebates until the end of 2020.

The number of rebates available each month will be maintained at the current rate, with a small reduction in the value (see table below).

There are several new mandatory requirements for rebate eligibility, most notably:

  • From 1 July 2020, all solar PV, battery and solar hot water installers and other on-site workers (apprentices, trade assistants, etc.) must have completed the “CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry” accredited unit of competency. Solar PV, battery and solar hot water retailers must confirm that the necessary training has been completed.
  • From 1 September 2020, all solar PV inverters must have internet capability and an on-board communication port that can be used for physical connection to another device.
  • From 1 January 2021, all installers and other on-site workers must have completed the “VU22744 Work safely in the solar industry” accredited unit of competency. Retailers will be required to confirm that the necessary training has been completed.
  • PV module suppliers must be listed by the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) as a participating brand in the joint CER and industry Solar Panel Validation Initiative.

Retailers and installers participating in the Solar Homes program will also become eligible for free Business Mentoring Packages, which will be delivered in a partnership with Small Business Victoria.
