Manufacturers and installers urged to check PV module expiration as deadline approaches

Manufacturers and installers have until 1 December 2018 to ensure that their PV modules comply with the new versions of IEC 61215 and IEC 61730.

In January 2017, the Clean Energy Council advised manufacturers of the timetable for compliance with the new versions of IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 for listing of PV modules by the Clean Energy Council. The transition period for this ends on 1 December 2018, meaning that all PV modules that do not comply with IEC 61215:2016 by this date will be delisted. As a result, more than half the currently listed modules are scheduled to expire on 1 December 2018.

It is critical that the modules are on the list at the date of installation or no STCs will be payable. Do not get caught out. Please double-check the expiry date on your modules.

Clean Energy Council approval takes approximately four weeks from application. However, due to the anticipated increase in the number of applications, processing times may be longer.

In addition to this, all new applications will be required to re-list as per our current Terms & Conditions. This includes the requirement that modules certified to a maximum system voltage of 1500V shall have a unique model number to distinguish them from modules rated to 1000V.

There is also a requirement that certificates to IEC 61730 declare that the modules are rated to “Fire Class C per UL 790”. This wording is necessary because the fire test for IEC 61730 is now country-specific.

More information on the process for approval can be found on our website. Please consult the application checklist to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements.
