A Clean Victorian Recovery

A Clean Victorian Recovery is the Clean Energy Council’s policy recommendations for the Victorian Government to kickstart the economy and create quality jobs across regional Victoria.

As a result of the strong ambition and sensible policies introduced by the Andrews Government, Victoria has established itself as a leader in renewable energy. At a pivotal moment for the transition of the energy system combined with the necessity for economic stimulus to the COVID19 crisis, Victoria now has an opportunity to show the rest of Australia the way to build a robust economy based on clean renewable energy.

A Clean Victorian Recovery can kickstart the Victorian economy and create thousands of quality jobs across regional Victoria for workers hard hit by the economic shock of COVID-19.

Ahead of the 2020 Victorian Budget we are calling on the Victorian Government to implement some key clean energy policy initiatives that could deliver a strong economic and jobs stimulus and further accelerate the transition to clean energy in Victoria. These initiatives are:

Scaling up the home battery program

Scaling up the home battery program would mean many more households would have access to cheap and reliable clean renewable energy 24/7, lowering household bills at a time when they need it the most. This would also address the current challenges associated with the existing household battery program, with demand outstripping the limited number of rebates available.

Building transmission and strengthening the grid

Investing in the grid and building fit-for-purpose network infrastructure will unlock millions of dollars in private investment, create thousands of jobs and lay the foundations for a reliable and secure energy network able to power Victoria through the 21st century.

Accelerate large-scale investment and push on with VRET 2

Accelerating VRET-2 which can bring forward the next wave of large-scale renewable energy projects and ensure Victoria has low-cost, reliable electricity, and meet Victoria’s emission reduction targets.

Develop a Victorian renewable hydrogen hub

Establish a renewable hydrogen hub that can place Victoria at the centre of the next resources boom, laying the foundation for a strong and secure local economy and position Victoria as a clean energy export superpower.
