Record year for renewables brings milestone for Accredited Installer program

The Clean Energy Council signs up its 5000th Accredited Installer in the wake of the rooftop solar industry’s best ever year.

5000Th Installer News

The Clean Energy Council is pleased to welcome John Morrell as its 5000th Accredited Installer. To celebrate this important milestone, John was presented with a $1000 tools voucher and $4000 worth of training, engineering design or mentoring services from Global Sustainable Energy Solutions (GSES). These prizes were generously donated by GSES, which is an Associate member of the Clean Energy Council.

Fittingly, the prize was presented to John by Geoff Stapleton from GSES, who was Australia’s first ever accredited installer.

The Clean Energy Council’s Accredited Installer program has grown exponentially in recent years, with the number of Accredited Installers increasing from just over 300 in 2007 to more than 5000 today.

This remarkable growth has made a significant contribution to the development of the Australian rooftop solar industry.

By requiring installers to meet the Clean Energy Council’s extremely high standards of safety and performance, the Accredited Installer program has helped to uphold the reputation of the Australian rooftop solar industry and given consumers the confidence that their rooftop solar system will be installed by a qualified professional.

The accreditation of our 5000th installer comes on the back of a record-breaking year for the rooftop solar industry. In 2017, 1.25 GW of solar PV was installed across Australia, eclipsing the previous record set in 2012.

While the residential market continued to perform strongly, the record growth was largely driven by the commercial sector as businesses looked to offset their soaring energy prices by installing solar. Throughout the year, sub-100 kW commercial solar installations increased by 60 per cent, while there were almost twice as many 101–1000 kW installations.

More than one in five Australian households now have solar panels on their roof, making Australia the world leader in rooftop solar installations per capita.

The Clean Energy Council expects that the number of Accredited Installers will continue to grow in the coming years as prevailing high electricity prices drive more consumers and businesses to consider a rooftop solar installation.

Additionally, falling prices and strong consumer interest in battery storage systems mean that the demand for Accredited Installers is unlikely to fall anytime soon.

In such a rapidly growing market, it is important that consumers choose a Clean Energy Council Accredited Installer to ensure that their solar system is installed to the highest possible standard. Consumers can find a local Accredited Installer by visiting
