Statement on shortlisted Hydrogen Headstart projects

The following statement is attributable to Clean Energy Council Director of Decarbonisation, Anna Freeman:

“The Clean Energy Council congratulates the six shortlisted projects under the Commonwealth Government’s Hydrogen Headstart program, selected from a large and strong field of applicants.

“A new, globally competitive hydrogen sector is Australia’s opportunity for the taking, and Hydrogen Headstart is crucial for Australia to scale up its industry and gain a foothold in international markets.

“Green hydrogen and its derivatives stand to play a critical role in decarbonising hard to electrify energy needs and chemical processes that are currently dependent on fossil fuels, and we urgently need to drive down the cost of this renewable fuel to support decarbonisation plans.”
