Statement on the planned expansion of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (NSW)

The following statement is attributable to Clean Energy Council Director of Energy Generation and Storage, Dr Nicholas Aberle:

"The announcement of a planned increase in capacity for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) to 6 GW by 2038, is a welcome recognition of the importance of this region in NSW's shift to clean energy.

"Expediting the state's transition to renewables is of crucial importance towards delivering clean, affordable and reliable energy to all households and businesses.

“Today's announcement shows the NSW Government is taking on feedback to get the energy transition right and to deliver results at scale.

"It will be equally important to ensure that other critical frameworks, such as planning guidelines for renewable energy projects, are also fit for purpose in terms of achieving the goals in the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

"We look forward to working with the government on the continued work towards a successful roll-out of renewable energy projects and REZ infrastructure."
